Crisis Management
The University’s regularly scheduled tests (2008 schedule
) of the outdoor warning system will take place on the first Wednesday of every month, alternating during the day (noon) and evening (6 pm) to ensure that a variety of students and faculty are on campus to hear the test. The underlying intent for sounding the sirens is the same in all emergencies: “Seek shelter now and obtain more information.” However, you do not need to take any action during the test. To avoid any confusion, the test will be cancelled if there is a chance of severe weather on the test day.
Key organizations within the University of Memphis have longstanding individual plans to address various crisis scenarios. This Web site presents the University-wide Crisis Management Plan, representing the integration of the many function- and unit-specific plans. These plans and procedures are being fine-tuned continuously so that they will work as smoothly as possible and in concert with each other.
