Shelby L. Slater has extensive emergency management and law enforcement experience that began with a 23 year career with the Michigan State Police. One of his most notable positions while serving with the state police was as the Emergency Management District Coordinator for southeast Michigan.
Slater subsequently served as Campus Safety and Student Housing Director for Lawrence Technological University and, Director of Homeland Security and Emergency Management for the City of Detroit.
As Director of Detroitís Office of Homeland Security, Mr. Slater coordinated homeland security operations for the 2003 Democratic Presidential Candidates Debate, 2005 Major League Baseball All Star Game, and 2006 NFL Super Bowl Game. Mr. Slater also was appointed to the Michigan Homeland Security Advisory Board by Governor Jennifer Granholm. Most recently, Mr. Slater served as Emergency Management/CBRNE Coordinator for the Naval Base in Millington, TN; his responsibilities included planning, exercise development, and program management.
He holds a bachelor and masterís degree from Eastern Michigan University, Slater also is a graduate of the F.B.I. National Academy (179th Session), Northwestern University School of Staff and Command, and United States Secret Service Dignitary Protection and Threat Assessment Programs.
