Criminology and Criminal Justice


The University of Memphis Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice invites applications for the position of Instructor. This position is for one academic year and is not tenure-track.

Requirements: Requires a Master’s degree in Criminology or a related social science. The J.D. degree is not appropriate for this position. Extensive law enforcement background and experience in law enforcement officer training is required. Knowledge of hostage negotiation and crisis intervention strategies is highly desirable. Duties: The successful candidate will have the ability to teach a diversity of courses related to applied law enforcement. Strong community connections in the tri-state area and the ability to facilitate internship placements are especially desirable. Salary: Salary is competitive, with excellent fringe benefits.

Physics


The Physics Department at the University of Memphis seeks applicants for a one year temporary position at the Instructor level, to begin in the Fall 2008 semester. Requirements: Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in Physics with a concentration in Materials Physics. The successful candidate must be an effective teacher at the graduate (M.S.) and the undergraduate (B.S.) levels. Responsibilities: Individual must be willing to mentor undergraduate and graduate level students in materials science research. Currently, the department has active research programs in computational materials physics, nano-materials, biomaterials, condensed matter, biophysics as well as solar physics. Journalism


The Department of Journalism at the University of Memphis is seeking a full-time instructor to teach and coordinate news writing and editing courses. Position begins August 18, 2008, is an annually renewable, non-tenure track position for 9 months per year, and includes full University of Memphis benefits. Requirements: Include a Master's degree and professional print journalism experience or a Bachelor's degree and significant professional print journalism experience. Teaching experience at the college level in newspaper and/or publication design is desirable. This person will be teaching four classes a semester and supervising media writing classes.

Salary: Salary will be approximately $36,000 per academic year with a possibility of additional summer teaching.
