Other Address Information

  1. Addresses used by Mail Services. University Mail Services provides mail distribution services (sorting and delivery) on the Main and South Campuses. Mail is distributed to departments and units, not to individuals or programs. This means that the department or unit name to which mail will be distributed must be identified.
  2. U. S. Postal Service mail addresses. An approved primary or secondary name should appear on all incoming USPS mail together with the assigned delivery address and city state zip +4. The same address should be used as the return address on out-going U. S. mail.
  3. Campus mail addresses. For campus mail one of the approved primary or secondary names must be on each mail piece. The department name is the information needed by University Mail Services to determine where to deliver the item. Where possible the department name should be the first line on intercampus mail. A campus mail piece addressed only to a valid department is considered to be adequately addressed and will be delivered. However, where possible University Mail Services recommends the inclusion of the delivery address (room number and building name) in addition to the department name. Other information, such as the name of the individual to receive the mail, may be included if desired. If a sender does not find the intended department in the address list, it is likely that University Mail Services also will not know where to deliver the item.
  4. Physical delivery location versus addresses. The site to which University Mail Services will deliver a department’s mail is independent of the assigned official mailing address. Generally mail is delivered to one location per building. The unique address for a department will assist in both the accuracy and speed of separating mail and will provide a physical location reference for those who will look for a department based on the address.
  5. Express and package delivery services. Addresses for deliveries by FedEx, UPS, and other  express or package delivery services should use the same campus delivery addresses as discussed above.
