Explanation of the Addressing Scheme

  1. Zip +4 coding together with the use of standardized “delivery addresses” will allow University Mail Services to sort and route in-coming U. S. mail much faster and more accurately. Most letter-sized mail if addressed properly can be sorted with automation equipment the University already owns.
  2. The use of specified department and unit names for campus mail will allow much faster and more accurate sorting of campus mail.
  3. With the inclusion of University addresses in the national database maintained by the United States Postal Service (USPS), mailers can have more assurance that their mail will both get to the intended party and get there more quickly.
  4. Parties sending USPS mail to the University have not been able to receive the lowest presort discounts offered by the USPS because the University does not have addresses that would qualify for the lowest rates.
