Persons moving into the Memphis from a state other than Tennessee or a county other than Shelby, obtaining employment and making residence must, within thirty (30) days, register their vehicle in Shelby County and/or apply for Tennessee automobile title, Tennessee state automobile plates and Tennessee driver's license. Residents of the City of Memphis have ten (10) working days to have their automobile inspected at the Automobile Inspection Bureau. Inspection stations are located at 590 Washington Avenue, 1720 RKS Commercial Cove, and 855 White Station Road. No additional fee is charged for the inspection.
Persons moving into Memphis from a state other than Tennessee or a county other than Shelby, for the principle purpose of attending the University, may use the out-of-state or out-of-country license plates provided the vehicle is registered with The University of Memphis Public Safety Department prior to being parked on campus.
