Michael Allen is a licensed professional engineer with broad knowledge in design, construction and operations. He has more than 15 years of senior-level administrative experience in university facilities departments, and he has extensive experience in facilities strategic planning and campus master planning as well as in local, state, and federal standards, regulations, and codes.
Prior to joining the U of M, he worked for the Iowa Department of Human Services and the University of South Dakota. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Youngstown State University and has been a licensed professional engineer for more than 20 years. He attended the Institute for Facilities Management, sponsored by APPA Leadership in Education Facilities (formerly the Association of Physical Plant Administrators). He is an APPA Facilities Management Evaluation Program (FMEP) evaluator and is an active member of numerous professional associations.
