The University of Memphis has a campus-wide Identification System that has three separate components, Datacard, VIANet, and the Blackboard Transaction System (BBTS-W).
Datacard is the ID card production system and utilizes digital technology. Card production locations are in Wilder Tower lobby for all students and in 159 Administration building for faculty and staff. The face of the card has an image of the cardholder, name, library barcode, and relationship (student, staff, faculty, guest) of the cardholder with the University.
VIANet is the web based component utilized by departments to view ID card information and can be used for card production from remote sites.
The Blackboard Transaction System (BBTS-W) is the declining balance and meal plan component used by Dining Services, Tiger Copy and Graphics, and various copier locations on campus. There are also Card Management Centers in McWherter Library, Tiger Copy and Graphics, Ball Hall, and Humphreys Law Library where copy cards can be purchased or money may be added to your ID card account. The computerized ID system is also used by departments to verify eligibility to use a particular facility or attend an event.
The identification system was implemented during the summer of 2003. A University ID User's Group was established and is comprised of members from all departments on campus that utilize the system. The group meets monthly for training, to review suggestions for expanding the system's use, and to recommend enhancements to the system.
