Purpose

Analyses of the communications climate within the Division conducted by Dr. Walter Kirkpatrick (Assoc. Professor, Department of Communications) in 1992 and updated in 1997 highlighted the need for a process within the Division to permit employees to assess the effectiveness of their supervisors.

The purpose of the Division of Business & Finance's supervisory leadership feedback process therefore is to strengthen the leadership skills of our supervisors by allowing employees a structured, systematic and fair method of assessing the quality of their supervisors' leadership behaviors. This approach recognizes that employees are most qualified to comment on problems and opportunities in the workplace. In addition, recent research efforts involving a variety of organizations and industries have linked empirically the level of self-awareness of one's behaviors in the workplace to individual and managerial performance.
